Raksha Mantri digitally Inaugurates new SPS facility at Goa Shipyard

Wasco: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated new state of the art Steel Preparation Shop facility at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) through a digitalinauguration ceremony held on 10thAugust 2020, in the presence Honble Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Shripad Yesso Naik at GSL. The state of art Steel Preparation Shop (SPS) has been completedat an approximate cost of Rs 27 Cr with installation of required machineries. The facility is ready for utilization for Plate and Stiffener cutting / forming operations required for indigenous construction Frigate Project and upcoming projects.”

The digital inauguration was done through Direct Video link with Raksha Mantralaya in New Delhi due to prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining strict protocol of social distancing.

Hon’ble Raksha Mantri emphasizing the necessity of Atma Nirbharta (Self-relaince) in Defence, stated‘These activities of creating and expanding indigenous capability in Defence will be significant in boosting the self-confidence of Armed Forces in defence preparedness”.

Cmde B B Nagpal, NM, CMD GSL said,“Inauguration of this facility today will enhance the Yard’s Shipbuilding capacity thus contributing to the Atma Nirbhar vision of our country.

Multiple activities have been planned by GSL as part of ‘Atma Nirbhar Week’ being celebrated from 07-14 Aug 2020 GSL will also announce successful indigenization of Gear Boxes for CGOPVs, a critical propulsion machinery, which has been developed by GSL indigenously. This indigenizationsuccess has not only saved precious foreign exchange but is also considered as a significant step in Self-reliance.
