Coal India Production reports marginal decline of 1.4% in May 2025

New Delhi: State-owned Coal India’s has reported a slight decline in coal production for May 2025, with output standing at 63.5 million tonnes (MT), compared to 64.4 MT in the same month of previous year. This marks a year-on-year decrease of approximately 1.3%, based on provisional data submitted to stock exchanges.
Coal offtake of CIL during May stood at 64.0 MT, registering a decline of 69.4 MT in May 2024.

For the April–May 2025 period, cumulative coal production was 125.6 MT, registering a growth lower than the 126.2 MT produced during the same period of previous year. However, off-take stood at 128.5 MT from 133.7 MT in April–May 2024, registering a fall of 3.9%.
In terms of Coal India’s subsidiaries, Northern Coalfields Ltd’s production has registered a marginal increase of 12.4MT, up from 2.5% and for the April to May period also, the NCL has registered a growth of 24.6 MT, up by 3%.
However, the production and off-take figures are provisional and are subject to audit revision.
