Sambalpur: Dated 1 May 2025 Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) The 'Miner Abhinandan Diwas' organised by the Company at Lakhanpur area of ??Jharsuguda district was celebrated with great enthusiasm to honour the tireless efforts of the coal miners . Tributes were paid to the brave coal miners on this occasion. The function was attended by senior officials of the company, employees and stakeholders etc.

The function was presided over by Shri Uday Anant Kaole, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, in presence of Shri Keshav Rao (Director - Human Resources), Chief Vigilance Officer Shri PK Patel, Shri J.K. Bora, Director(Technical/Operations) , Shri A.K. Behura, Director(Finance) and officials of Joint Advisory Committee (Apex) were also present on the dais.

CMD, Shri Kaole congratulated Team MCL for its excellent performance in coal production, dispatch and overburden (OB) clearance during the financial year 2024–25.

In his address, he said, “ Due to your dedication and commitment, MCL has emerged as the leading coal producing company of the country. We can say with pride that MCL is the only company which has achieved the historic feat of 200 million tonnes in both coal production and dispatch.” He attributed this success to the dedication and hard work of the coal miners.

CMD Shri Kaole praised Indian Railways for coordinating the dispatch of record 210 million tonnes of coal to coal consumers and 15% growth in coal transportation by rail . Shri Kaole said , " This achievement would not have been possible without the excellent coordination and cooperation of the Railways."

He also informed that "MCL has started controlling coal production for the first time and focus is being laid on dispatching quality coal to consumers. We have a stock of 36 million tonnes of coal."

With the stabilization of coal production , the company is now accelerating its diversification efforts.
He said , “We are actively pursuing projects related to solar energy , wind energy , ammonium nitrate and thermal power generation to meet future requirements.”

He emphasized MCL's role as the largest CSR contributor in Odisha and reiterated the company's commitment towards creating sustainable social infrastructure for the benefit of the communities in the state.

On this occasion , a total of 87 Excellence Awards were presented by the dignitaries to the sectors, projects and employees who performed best in the financial year 2024–25.

The Integrated Lilari-Belpahar-Lakhanpur (LBL) Open Project under Lakhanpur Area was awarded the Best Open Project , while the Hirakud-Bundiya underground mine of Orient Area was awarded the Best Underground Project.

In the same sequence, Lakhanpur region was awarded the prestigious “Malpuri Trophy” as the best region in gross performance.
