NLCIL is fully committed to forest conservation and sustainable water management: CMD, NLCIL

The International Day of Forests and the World Water day were observed at NLCIL today - 21.03.25. The theme for this year’s International Day of Forests is “Forests and Food” while the theme for this year’s World Water Day is “Glacier preservation”.

A function was organised at the Corporate Office of NLC India Limited in which CMD Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Executive Directors, Senior officials and other employees of NLCIL participated.

Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, while speaking on the occasion, stressed upon the need for awareness on the importance of forest conservation and sustainable water management. He outlined the efforts of NLCIL in the ecological restoration of 3117 Hectares of Mined-out land and afforestation of 2775 Hectares of the restored land since inception. He also took pride in the fact that, under the National Green Credit Programme, NLCIL has registered 356 Hectares of degraded forest land, 245 Hectares in Jharkhand and 111 Hectares in Odisha, for restoration.

NLCIL is also actively involving in sustainable water management by effective Mine water utilisation and community water supply. 430 Lakh Cubic Metres (LCM) of water is being supplied for irrigation of 25,000 acres of agricultural land in 40 surrounding villages of Neyveli. Also, Mine water is being supplied as drinking water to 1 lakh residents of Neyveli Township, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewage Board (CMWSS) for treatment and distribution and to the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Distribution Board (TWAD) for supply of drinking water to 6 town panchayats and 625 villages in Cuddalore District benefiting 7.68 Lakh people.

Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli also assured that NLCIL would continue its dedicated efforts in water conservation, ecological restoration and sustainable initiatives.

On this occasion, different varieties of herbal water were distributed to create awareness on the health benefits of medicinal water. Also, saplings were planted by CMD, Executive Directors and Senior officials of NLCIL at the Corporate Office to mark the occasion.

Earlier, Shri B. Anbuchelvan, Executive Director, Renewable Energy Power Projects (REPP) welcomed the gathering and conducted the event in a fitting manner.
