SAIL supplies over 31,000 Tonnes of steel in Zojila Tunnel construction
The largest Steel producer, Maharatna PSU, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has been emerged as the single largest single steel supplier to the prestigious Zojila Tunnel project. The under-construction project is set to become India's longest road tunnel and Asia's longest bi-directional tunnel.
The Steel PSU has been designated as a vital partner to this strategic infrastructure initiative and have supplied over 31,000 tonnes of steel, including TMT Re-bars, Structurals, and Plates.
The company has been part of strategic commitment with a continuous supply of steel to this project and progresses towards its 2027 completion.
The contribution to the Zojila Tunnel has further strengthen the SAIL's prolonged legacy of nation-building. The Zojila Tunnel is strategically located at an altitude of 11,578 feet and is being constructed in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
The tunnel is over 30 km and will provide vital all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, via Dras and Kargil and is a vital part of India's national infrastructure development, specifically the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway, and will significantly enhance civilian and military mobility in the region.
The project is a strategic infrastructure asset and represents a significant economic opportunity for the region.
