NALCO to do periphery development of Puri Jagannath Temple
BHUBANESWAR: Ministry of mines on Thursday asked NALCO to take initiative for overall periphery development of Jagannath Temple in Puri. The central PSU will maintain sanitation and beautification drive outside the 12th century temple, said union mines secretary Balvinder Kumar.
"We have requested Nalco to develop Puri Jagannath Temple as a world class centre where thousands of devotees and tourists from across the world are coming every day," Kumar said. Various basic facilities outside the temple would be upgraded by Nalco, he said.
Besides, Kumar also urged both primary and secondary aluminium producers to adopt certain number of villages and make them open defecation free by setting up toilets. "It is a collective responsibility of all of us to promote and implement the Swachh Bharat initiative in every nook and corner of the country. A group of industries can adopt villages jointly and ensure that they are open defecation free by using their funds under corporate social responsibility (CSR)," he pointed out.
Nalco sources said, the exact amount to be spent on periphery development of the temple has not been decided yet.
