SJVN awarded 87 silver jubilee merit scholarships to meritorious students
Shimla: Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya awarded Merit Scholarships to 87 students of Himachal Pradesh at Shimla.Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, Sh. R.K. Bansal, Director(Electical), Smt. Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel) and Sh. S.P Bansal , Director (Civil) were also present along with other senior officials of SJVN.
SJVN under its CSR initiative - ‘SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme’ has awarded scholarships to meritorious students of class 12th for academic session 2018-19, from the states of its operations. Today, 87 meritorious students of Himachal Pradesh were awarded scholarships at a function held at SJVN Corporate Head Quarters, Shimla. In addition to this, projects of SJVN in other states namely Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra and Gujarat will also be awarding remaining 63 Merit Scholarships for the year 2019 from their respective offices.
On this ocassion, Sh. Nand Lal Sharma extended warm welcome to Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya and apprised that SJVN undertakes its CSR and Sustainability initiatives through SJVN Foundation. In the year 2012, SJVN Foundation had launched Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme aiming to inculcate competitive spirit among students and assist them in pursuing higher studies in varied streams.
These meritorious students of class 12th are being selected from CBSE, ICSE and State Education Board schools from the states of SJVN’s operations. Thereafter, these selected students are paid a scholarship of Rs 2,000/- per month till completion of their course. The scholarship is given to the students belonging to three categories namely General, PWD and BPL including students from Project Affected Area (PAA). The scheme also aims at providing opportunity to students from BPL families and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as there is provision of special consideration for disbursing 30% and 10% scholarships respectively among students from these categories.
Till date SJVN has awarded 1537 merit scholarships under this scheme with 828 male and 709 female students. Out of the total scholarships awarded, 412 students have successfully completed their degrees.Chief Guest Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya in his address congratulated the students who were awarded the Scholarship today. He appreciated SJVN for undertaking initiatives in the field of Education.
