PESB Updates Deadline for DG Akashvani & Doordarshan Posts 2026
PESB portal publishes extension of deadline for Director General posts of Akashvani and Doordarshan under Level-16 pay scale.

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has uploaded an official vacancy circular regarding the extension of the application deadline for the posts of Director General (Akashvani) and Director General (Doordarshan) for the vacancy year 2026.
As per the notification issued by the Prasar Bharati Secretariat and published on the PESB portal, the two senior-most positions in India’s public broadcasting system will be filled through promotion or deputation, including short-term contract. Both posts carry a Level-16 pay scale under the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a salary ranging from ₹2.05 lakh to ₹2.24 lakh per month.
The revised schedule allows candidates to submit advance copies of applications by January 15, 2026, while duly forwarded applications through the proper channel must reach the authorities by January 31, 2026. Officers who have already submitted complete applications in response to the earlier circular are not required to reapply.
Eligibility remains limited to senior Group ‘A’ officers from All India Services, Central Services, PSUs, autonomous bodies, universities, and recognised research institutions, with substantial experience in media, mass communication, or public administration.
While the extension provides additional time to eligible candidates, it also reflects the slow-moving selection process for key leadership roles in public broadcasting, where vacancies often remain unfilled for extended periods despite growing challenges in the media landscape.
The selected candidates will be appointed for a three-year deputation term, subject to applicable Prasar Bharati rules and conditions.
