New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Shri Ravi Ranjan as Managing Director (MD) of State Bank of India (SBI) with effect from 15 December 2025, according to an official notification issued by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.

The appointment has been made under the provisions of the State Bank of India Act, 1955, and Shri Ravi Ranjan will hold office until he attains the age of superannuation on 30 September 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Prior to this elevation, Shri Ravi Ranjan was serving as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) at SBI. Upon assumption of charge as Managing Director, he will oversee the Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG) verticals of the Bank.

Extensive Banking Experience

A career banker with over 34 years of experience, Shri Ravi Ranjan joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1991. Over the years, he has held several key leadership roles across domestic and international assignments.

His past responsibilities include:

  • Deputy Managing Director – Global Markets

  • Deputy Managing Director – Corporate Accounts Group (CAG)

  • Chief General Manager – Chennai Circle (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry)

  • President & Chief Operating Officer – SBICAPS, Mumbai

  • General Manager – Retail Network, Bengaluru

Shri Ranjan has also undertaken foreign postings in Hong Kong and Los Angeles, gaining exposure in debt syndication and international banking operations.

Regulatory Disclosure

State Bank of India has informed the BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 regarding the appointment.

The Bank confirmed that Shri Ravi Ranjan:

  • Is not debarred by SEBI or any statutory authority from holding the office of director

  • Has no relationship with any other director on the Board

The appointment notification will be published in Part II, Section 3, Sub-Section (ii) of the Gazette of India.
