Senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta has taken over as the Director General of Police (DGP) as of Friday. He succeeds Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who recently retired. Appointed by the state government, Gupta aims to adopt a stringent approach to tackling organized crime in its various forms.

He specifically identified cybercrime as a key area that necessitates focused efforts, including the establishment of a separate cybercrime cadre. Gupta expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the government for the opportunity, emphasizing the importance of police adaptability in addressing the constantly evolving crime landscape.
