New Delhi: Raj Kumar Goyal has taken oath as the Chief Information Commissioner. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Mr. Goyal’s name has been recommended as CIC by three-member panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is a 1990-batch (retired) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre and was retired on 31 August as Secretary, Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Mr. Goyal has also served a s Secretary (Border Management) in the Ministry of Home Affairs and held several key posts both at Centre and in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Goyal. The event was attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, among others. The post of Chief Information Commissioner was vacant after Heeralal Samariya completed his term on September 13.
