Bharat Weagon & Engineering CO. Ltd

Bharat Wagons and Engineering  Limited (BWEL) is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India.  BWEL was formed on 4 December 1978, through the merger of two sick companies, Arthur Butler & Co and Britannia Engineering Company.

 

Headquartered in Patna, Bihar, BWEL has two manufacturing facilities at Muzaffarpur and Mokama, both of which are equipped with high speed railway lines and other important facilities. Engineering, petrol station roof and tank roof . In its heyday, BWEL was the largest  manufacturer of railway wagons in India and contributed to the national rail transport.

 

Despite a successful start, the company ran into financial difficulties and was referred to the Business Development and Finance Board  (BIFR) in December 2000. He was declared  sick  in 2002. However, due to continuous financial loss, the Board of Trade approved the closure of BWEL in August 2017 on the recommendation of NITI Aayog. role. Even though the company is closed, the  impact on the business is still significant.
