HIL (India) Limited, formerly known as Hindustan Insecticides Limited, is a prominent public sector enterprise under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India. Established in March 1954, the company was initially set up to manufacture and supply DDT for the National Malaria Eradication Programme. 

HIL’s product range has expanded significantly, now offering over 15 technical products, including insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides. The company has also ventured into the production of bio-degradable alternatives to DDT, in collaboration with the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. 

In addition to its core activities, HIL has established a manufacturing unit for Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). This facility, operational since December 2020, underscores HIL’s dedication to public health and safety.

HIL’s growth and diversification have been accompanied by a strong focus on research and development (R&D). The company invests significantly in R&D to enhance product quality, develop new formulations, and improve production processes.
