Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) is a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Established on July 12, 1999, MRVC was created to execute railway projects under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), which aims to enhance suburban rail transportation in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
MRVC’s primary objective is to improve the capacity and efficiency of the Mumbai suburban rail system. This includes segregating suburban train operations from mainline passenger and freight services, reducing overcrowding in trains, and integrating rail capacity enhancement plans with urban development initiatives.
One of the key projects undertaken by MRVC is the implementation of various phases of the MUTP, which includes the construction of new railway lines, the introduction of new trains, and the upgrading of existing infrastructure. These projects aim to bring down the number of passengers per coach and improve the overall commuting experience for millions of daily passengers.
MRVC’s efforts have significantly contributed to the modernization and expansion of Mumbai’s suburban rail network, making it more efficient and reliable.
