Adani Announces $100 Billion AI Investment to Build India’s Sovereign Data Infrastructure
Ahmedabad, February 17, 2026: In one of the world’s largest integrated energy-and-compute investments, Adani Group has announced a massive USD 100 billion direct investment to develop renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centres across India by 2035.
The initiative aims to create India’s sovereign AI backbone, positioning the country as a global leader in the fast-emerging Intelligence Revolution.
$250 Billion AI Ecosystem in the Making
The $100 billion direct investment is expected to catalyse an additional $150 billion in related sectors including:
-
Server manufacturing
-
Advanced electrical infrastructure
-
Sovereign cloud platforms
-
Semiconductor and compute ecosystems
Together, this could build a $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India over the next decade.
Gautam Adani: “India Will Be a Builder, Not Just a Consumer”
Chairman Gautam Adani stated that the world is entering a transformative Intelligence Revolution, and nations that control both energy and compute will define the future.
He emphasised that India will not remain merely a consumer of AI technologies but will emerge as a global creator and exporter of intelligence infrastructure.
5 GW AI Data Centre Platform
Building on AdaniConneX’s existing 2 GW national data centre capacity, the group plans to scale up to 5 GW, creating one of the world’s largest integrated AI data centre platforms.
Strategic Partnerships Include:
-
Google – For a gigawatt-scale AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam
-
Microsoft – Data centre collaboration across Hyderabad and Pune
-
Flipkart – Development of a second high-performance AI data centre
The group is also in discussions with other global technology leaders for additional hyperscale campuses.
Powered by Renewable Energy
The AI data centre expansion will be backed by green energy from Adani Green Energy, including the 30 GW Khavda renewable energy project — one of the largest in the world.
Additionally, the group plans to invest another $55 billion in renewable expansion, including large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
This ensures competitively priced, carbon-neutral power to support energy-intensive AI workloads.
Sovereign AI, Data & Semiconductor Push
The integrated model connects:
-
Renewable power generation
-
Transmission & grid resilience
-
Hyperscale AI compute
-
Liquid cooling systems for high-density GPUs
-
Dedicated compute capacity for Indian Large Language Models (LLMs)
The infrastructure will support Indian startups, research institutions, and deep-tech innovation by reserving significant GPU capacity for domestic AI development.
Boost to Aatmanirbhar AI & Manufacturing
To reduce global supply chain risks, the group will co-invest in domestic manufacturing of:
-
High-capacity transformers
-
Power electronics
-
Grid systems
-
Industrial thermal management solutions
This aligns with India’s push toward technological self-reliance and digital sovereignty.
Talent & AI Infrastructure Development
The group will collaborate with leading academic institutions to launch:
-
AI Infrastructure Engineering curricula
-
Applied AI research labs
-
National fellowship programs
This aims to bridge India’s AI skills gap and build long-term capability in energy-compute infrastructure.
Why This Matters
With AI workloads becoming increasingly energy-intensive, the integration of green energy and compute positions India strategically in the global AI race.
This move establishes one of the most ambitious national-scale AI infrastructure commitments globally.
