Bharti Airtel Receives Rs. 8 Lakh Penalty Notice from DoT for Alleged Subscriber Verification Lapses
New Delhi, March 16, 2026 – Bharti Airtel Limited, one of India’s leading telecom operators, has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Andhra Pradesh LSA, imposing a penalty of Rs. 8,00,000 for alleged violations of subscriber verification norms.
According to the notice, the alleged violations relate to the Customer Application Form (CAF) audit conducted by DoT for the months of September and October 2024. Under the terms of its license agreement, Bharti Airtel is required to ensure proper verification of all customers before activating services. DoT periodically audits these processes to confirm compliance.
In response, Bharti Airtel has stated that it does not agree with the notice and will take appropriate steps to challenge it and seek rectification or reversal of the penalty. The company also noted that the financial impact of the notice is limited to the penalty amount imposed.
This disclosure has been filed under Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, ensuring transparency for investors and stakeholders.
Bharti Airtel continues to maintain that it follows stringent subscriber verification protocols and will engage with DoT to resolve the matter.
