L&T Secures Large Order from Petronet LNG for Onshore Hydrocarbon Project at Dahej
Mumbai, January 16, 2026: Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), India’s leading engineering and construction conglomerate, has secured a large order for its Hydrocarbon Onshore business from Petronet LNG Limited, a joint venture promoted by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), GAIL (India) Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
The order falls under L&T’s Large category, valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore, reinforcing the company’s strong order inflow momentum in the hydrocarbon and petrochemical segment.
Project Scope and Execution
The project will be executed on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat. The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) of:
-
A 170,000 cubic metre LNG/Ethane double-wall storage tank
-
A 140,000 cubic metre Propane double-wall storage tank
-
Comprehensive Ethane and Propane handling and despatch facilities
These facilities will support the upcoming Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) plant, a key component of India’s evolving petrochemical infrastructure.
Strategic Significance
The project forms part of India’s first integrated petrochemical complex that leverages cold energy utilisation from an LNG terminal, marking a significant technological and industrial milestone for the country. Once operational, the facility is expected to help bridge the domestic demand–supply gap in polypropylene, reducing import dependence.
The project is also aligned with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aimed at strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities in high-value petrochemical products.
Management Commentary
Commenting on the order win, Mr Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director & President, L&T, said:
“This order represents a significant milestone as we contribute to India’s first integrated petrochemical complex that harnesses LNG cold energy. It aligns strongly with the nation’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and enhances domestic petrochemical capacity.”
Mr E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President & Head of L&T Onshore and Member of L&T’s Executive Committee, added:
“Winning this prestigious project from Petronet LNG is a strong endorsement of L&T’s proven capabilities in executing complex EPCC projects. We remain committed to delivering the project safely, efficiently and within stipulated timelines, while maintaining the highest quality standards.”
