Reliance Industries Denies Reports of $30 Billion Claim by Government of India
Mumbai | December 2025: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has strongly refuted recent media reports claiming that the Government of India has sought $30 billion from Reliance and its partner BP over alleged underproduction from the KG-D6 gas field.
In an official media statement issued on December 29, 2025, the company described the report as “factually incorrect, irresponsible and misleading,” noting that it was based on unnamed and unidentified sources.
Reliance clarified that there is no claim of $30 billion against the company. Instead, the actual claim made by the Government of India in relation to the KG-D6 Block stands at approximately $247 million, a figure that has already been fully and consistently disclosed in the company’s audited financial statements, in line with statutory disclosure requirements.
The company further stated that the matter is currently sub judice and will be decided by the country’s judicial system. Reliance expressed complete faith in the legal process and emphasized that both Reliance and BP have always complied with their contractual and legal obligations.
RIL also objected strongly to the misrepresentation of facts in the report and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and responsible corporate governance.
