Tata Electronics partners with Merck to strengthen semiconductor ecosystem in India

A significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Tata Electronics Private Ltd and Merck for a strategic collaboration that aims to advance India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing capabilities. The Partnership will be expected to focus on semiconductor materials, fabrication infrastructure, and specialty chemical and gas distribution in India.
As part of this agreement, Merck will supply all its products and services, which will include very pure electronic materials, advanced systems for delivering gases and chemicals, complete factory setup services, and its AI-driven Material Intelligence solutions for Tata Electronics' new factory in Dholera, Gujarat.

Further, it will also include the sharing of best practices in safety and manufacturing excellence, as well as access to platforms such as Athinia, a secure data analytics platform for industry-wide collaboration. This will also extend to localized warehousing, development of raw material supply chains, talent cultivation, and the establishment of industry standards in India.
The agreement is in line with the India Semiconductor Mission and will be a major step in establishing indigenous semiconductor capabilities. Tata Electronics is expected to invest Rs 91,000 crore (USD 11 billion) to build India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera.
It will manufacture chips for automotive, mobile devices, AI, and other key sectors for global customers. The collaboration will accelerate the Fab’s execution, along with stimulating the broader semiconductor ecosystem in India.
