TCS Unveils India’s First Lights-Out Factory Lab in Pune
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched India’s first lights-out factory laboratory at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune.
Named the TCS Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab – Lights-Out Factory, the facility demonstrates how a manufacturing assembly line can operate and optimise itself using artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics and advanced factory systems with minimal human intervention.
Key Features of the Lab
The Pune lab houses a fully robotic battery pack assembly line, making it the first facility of its kind in India to showcase the principles of lights-out manufacturing.
It is built on the TCS Human+AI Service Autonomy Model and integrates:

Manufacturers can use the lab to prototype, validate and scale AI-first production systems in a controlled environment before deploying them on actual shop floors.
Industry Context
The facility addresses a common challenge faced by manufacturers — converting Industry 4.0, AI and robotics concepts into practical, production-ready operating models. It enables companies to test scenarios, reduce deployment risk and explore integrated approaches to engineering, manufacturing and operations.
This is the latest addition to TCS’s Industrial Autonomy & Engineering innovation network. Earlier this year, the company had opened a similar lab powered by NVIDIA in Bengaluru focused on Physical AI for industrial and mobility applications.
