IIM Jammu Hosts 26th IIM Libraries Consortium Meet 2025

Jammu, September 24, 2025: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu is privileged to host the 26th IIM Libraries Consortium Meet from September 24–26, 2025, at its Jagti campus in the Vedanta MDP Block. The three-day event, organized by the Nalanda Library of IIM Jammu, brings together librarians from 21 IIMs along with leading national and international publishers, vendors, and service providers. The IIM Libraries Consortium meet serves as a platform for sharing best practices, collaborative discussions, and presentations on innovative products and services. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu.

Present during the inaugural ceremony were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu; Dr. Anuja Akhouri, Chairperson, Library Committee, IIM Jammu; Shri Shailesh K Lohiya, Librarian, IIM Jammu and Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran, CAO, IIM Jammu along with officers and staff of IIM Jammu. 

Established in 2000 with six IIMs, the IIM Libraries Consortium has now expanded to 21 premier institutions. Its objective is to pool resources, enhance access to quality information, reduce costs, enable inter-library loans, and promote best practices across the IIM network. Rooted in the shared vision of fostering cooperation, the Consortium emphasizes interlibrary loans, cooperative acquisition, processing, and distributed utilization of resources. 

This year’s will be witnessing participation from 42 service providers presenting 151 information products, including renowned names. The event saw participation from all 21 IIMs: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bodh Gaya, Calcutta, Indore, Jammu, Kashipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Shillong, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur, and Visakhapatnam.

In his address, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, warmly welcomed all delegates to the 26th IIM Libraries Consortium and emphasized the significance of the IIM Libraries Consortium as a collaborative platform for strengthening teaching, research, and knowledge-sharing across the IIM network. He noted that India, now the world’s third-largest economy, is witnessing rapid transformation in education, technology, and infrastructure, guided by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for a developed India by 2047.

He urged librarians to move beyond negotiations on subscriptions and focus on creating unique contributions such as Indian case studies, indigenous journals, and knowledge resources that highlight India’s success stories globally. He urged all IIM librarians to explore the possibility of establishing a Central IIM Case Centre. Calling librarians the torchbearers of innovation, he encouraged them to view libraries as community-serving institutions that foster knowledge equity and contribute to nation-building.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, emphasized that libraries are the backbone of academic institutions, serving as vital hubs of knowledge, collaboration, and innovation. He highlighted that the three-day deliberations would focus on optimizing resources, negotiating cost-effective models, and ensuring equitable access to information across all IIMs. He added that such collaborations are essential to strengthening teaching, supporting faculty research, and fostering a culture of academic excellence.

Dr. Anuja Akhouri, Chairperson, Library Committee, IIM Jammu, described the library as a gyān mandir, a temple of knowledge. She underlined that the Nalanda Library stands as a beacon of learning, combining rich collections with digital reach, research support, and preservation of India’s intellectual traditions. Every book and journal, she emphasized, contributes to the vision of Viksit Bharat, aligning with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi Ji’ s emphasis on education, research, and innovation.

Dr. Appasaheb Naikal, Librarian, IIM Kozhikode, provided an insightful overview of the IIM Libraries Consortium’s journey, tracing its expansion from 6 to 21 IIMs. He highlighted the Consortium’s key contributions, including resource sharing, capacity building for newer IIMs, the creation of a unified IIM Libraries catalogue, and support for research policy initiatives that have bolstered the IIM brand both nationally and globally.

Welcoming the delegates, Shri Shailesh K Lohiya, Librarian, IIM Jammu, reflected on the IIM Libraries Consortium’s role as a collaborative platform to break silos, empower teaching and research, and strengthen the collective vision of all IIMs. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Shailesh K Lohiya, Librarian, IIM Jammu, followed by the national anthem, a group photograph, and a networking session.

The 26th IIM Libraries Consortium is poised to usher in a new era of collaborative innovation, emphasizing the pivotal role of knowledge sharing and sustainable practices in shaping the future of academic excellence. It provides a platform for constructive deliberations, capacity building, and collective action, reinforcing the role of IIM Libraries as dynamic knowledge hubs that drive research, teaching, and innovation in management education across the country. 

The 26th IIM Libraries Consortium is jointly coordinated by the Library Team and the Office of Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu, and is envisioned to evolve into a transformative force across the entire IIM network in the years to come.
