IIM Jammu organised DST iTBI innovation Bootcamp at GDC Udhampur

Udhampur: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu, under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, is carrying forward its landmark initiative to foster grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.An Innovation Bootcamp outreach program was organized today at Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur, with the support of the office of the Nodal Principal, Department of Higher Education, Government of J&K. Conducted under the aegis of DST iTBI, IIM Jammu (the Institute’s business incubator), the initiative is part of a larger series aimed at motivating students, exposing them to entrepreneurial pathways, and linking them with incubation and funding opportunities.

Designed to spark a culture of innovation, the Innovation Bootcamps sensitize students to entrepreneurship, highlight real-life journeys of innovators, and guide them in shaping scalable ideas. The series also reinforces IIM Jammu’s role as a nodal hub for the UT Government’s YUVA Funding Scheme while introducing participants to DST’s Innovation Grant and incubation facilities available at DST iTBI, IIM Jammu.

The session at GDC Udhampur witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty. The program opened with a welcome address by Prof. Rakesh Singh and featured interactive talks by Mr. Raman, Founder of Blessings Pads Pvt. Ltd. (an IIM Jammu incubatee), and Mr. Shubham, Founder of The Kalari Factory, Udhampur, who shared their inspiring entrepreneurial journeys. The IIM Jammu incubation team, led by Dr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Innovation Officer, IIM Jammu, along with Mr. Kannav and Ms. Druvi, conducted engaging sessions and addressed student queries, underlining the role of innovation in solving local and regional challenges.

Dr. Sharma emphasized that the initiative’s mission is “to ignite an innovative educational ecosystem in J&K and create a launchpad for young entrepreneurs to build enterprises with national and global relevance.” The bootcamp gave participants hands-on exposure to the processes of innovation, ideation, incubation, funding, and mentorship. Students were also encouraged to establish Innovation Cells within their institutions, directly connected with IIM Jammu for continuous guidance and progress tracking, ensuring long-term impact across higher education institutions in the region.

The Innovation Bootcamp series will reach nearly 30 colleges across Jammu Division between September and October 2025, culminating in a central-level pitching competition later this year. The finale will bring together venture funds, financial institutions, and industry leaders to back the most promising innovations from the region.

With today’s outreach at GDC Udhampur, IIM Jammu has further strengthened the momentum of its Innovation Bootcamps. By bridging academia with real-world entrepreneurial opportunities, IIM Jammu continues to play a transformative role in empowering the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, guiding them from inspiration to innovation, and from innovation to enterprise
