NHPC Signs Long-Term Power Supply Deals with GUVNL

New Delhi: NHPC Limited and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) have signed two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for the supply of electricity from two major upcoming hydropower projects.

The agreements were signed in Vadodara on June 30, 2026, for power generated from the 1,856 MW Sawalkot Hydro Electric Project in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

Under the agreements, NHPC will supply power to GUVNL for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the respective projects.

The long-term arrangements are aimed at ensuring a stable supply of clean and sustainable hydroelectric power while supporting India's growing energy needs.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, said that the agreements represent another important step in the company's commitment to supporting India's clean energy transition through reliable and sustainable hydropower generation.

He added that the partnerships would contribute to long-term energy security while helping the country achieve its renewable energy targets.

The agreements were signed by senior commercial officials of both companies in the presence of executives and officers from NHPC and GUVNL.

The Sawalkot and Kamala projects are expected to play an important role in increasing India's renewable energy capacity and strengthening the country's position in the hydropower sector.
