ONGC and Oil India Sign Joint Operating Agreement for three Blocks awarded in OALP round IX
ONGC and Oil India Limited have signed a Joint Operating Agreement for two onland and one ultra deepwater block under OALP Bid Round-IX, covering 10,964 sq. km in key Indian basins. This strategic move aims to boost India’s energy security.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), in collaboration with Oil India Limited (OIL), has formally signed Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) for two onland Blocks and one Ultra Deepwater Block awarded under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) Bid Round-IX. The agreement was signed on 12 August 2025 at ONGC’s Deendayal Urja Bhavan, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

These Blocks are located in Meghalaya (Assam Basin), Gujarat (Cambay Basin) and off the eastern coast in the Mahanadi Basin, measuring a total area of approximately 10,964 square kilometres. The consortium, with ONGC designated as the Operator, is set to undertake exploratory activities aimed at assessing and harnessing the hydrocarbon potential of these Indian sedimentary Basins.
The signing ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, Mr. Saloma Yomdo, Director (E&D), Oil India; Mr. Arunangshu Sarkar, Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs), ONGC; and Mr. Om Prakash Sinha, Director (Exploration), ONGC.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in collaborative energy exploration and reflects the consortium’s shared commitment to advancing India’s energy security and contributing to the nation’s long- term energy goals.
