The Union Cabinet has approved the scheme for conducting the Census of India 2027 with a total financial outlay of ₹11,718.24 crore. Around 30 lakh field functionaries will be deployed to carry out this large-scale national exercise.
The Census 2027 will extensively use a mobile application for data collection and a central monitoring portal, ensuring improved data accuracy, transparency, and real-time supervision.
A key feature of the upcoming Census is the introduction of Census-as-a-Service (CaaS), which will enable ministries and departments to access census data in a clean, machine-readable, and actionable format, supporting evidence-based policymaking and efficient governance.
