The Ministry of Power approved a new VGF scheme in June 2025, providing ₹5,400 Cr from PSDF to develop 30 GWh of BESS capacity, building on the success of the existing 13.22 GWh scheme.

New Delhi: With the increased demand for reliable and stable grid balancing solutions, in June 2025 the Ministry approved a second, larger VGF scheme for the implementation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
This new VGF will cover approximately 30 GWh of battery energy storage capacity, amounting to ₹5,400 Crore, and will be financed through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).
