Indian Navy approves Mazagon Dock to build six submarine
The Indian Navy has approved the state-owned Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) to construct six submarines at a projected cost of up to Rs 60,000 crore. This decision comes after the successful trials of submarines under Project 75 India, as reported by defense sources.
The deal is crucial for India to counter the increasing influence of China and Pakistan in the Indian Ocean Region. MDL, in partnership with Germany's ThyssenKrupp, was competing against Larsen & Toubro and Navantia. The Indian government is focused on enhancing public sector units for job creation and technology development.

India is planning to acquire six advanced conventional submarines equipped with an Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system. This technology will allow the submarines to stay underwater for longer periods compared to previous models that do not have AIP.
The project, known as Project 75 India, aims to procure diesel-electric attack submarines with AIP technology, which will make them larger and more advanced than the current models.
India’s nuclear submarine program has been advancing with the imminent commissioning of its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), the INS Arighat.

According to sources, the submarine is expected to be officially commissioned into service within the next two months.
