New Delhi: The Indian Navy will commission the two advanced frontline frigates-INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, simultaneously on 26th of August at Visakhapatnam.
The Ministry of Defence stated that this will be the first time that two major surface combatants from two Indian Shipyards are being commissioned at the same time.
The second ship of the Project 17A stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri, has been built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) in Mumbai, and INS Himgiri is the first of the P17A ships being constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.

In another major milestone for the Indian Navy, Udaygiri is the 100th ship designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. Further, the Ministry stated that the event remarks the India’s accelerating naval modernisation and its ability to deliver sophisticated warships from multiple shipyards.
