Major Shake-up at ONGC: PESB Picks Satyan Kumar for Top Strategy Role

New Delhi, February 20, 2026: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Shri Satyan Kumar for the post of Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs) at Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), a Schedule 'A' Central Public Sector Enterprise. The recommendation was made during the PESB meeting No. 13/2026 held at 08:45 AM on February 20, 2026.

Selection Process:

A total of 12 candidates were interviewed in the selection meeting. The candidates, drawn from various prestigious public sector undertakings, included:

  1. Shri Devendra Kumar - Director (Finance), Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited

  2. Shri Satyan Kumar - Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer, ONGC Green Limited, ONGC (Recommended)

  3. Shri Sunil Kumar - Executive Director & Asset Manager, Mehsana Asset, ONGC

  4. Shri Ashok Kumar - Executive Director & Chief Marketing, ONGC; Director (nominee), Mangalore SEZ Ltd; Special Invitee, ONGC Green Limited Board

  5. Shri Sanjeev Kumar Janjua - Executive Director & Asset Manager-Tripura, ONGC

  6. Shri Bhaskar Chowdary Nettem - Executive Director (E9), ONGC

  7. Shri Narahari Rangisetti - Group General Manager & Head Offshore Projects, ONGC

  8. Shri Shankar Sharan - Group General Manager & Head-Refinery & Petrochemicals, Joint Ventures & Business Development, ONGC

  9. Shri Kishore Kumar Das - Executive Director (S&CA), Corporate Office Noida, Oil India Limited

  10. Shri Manoj Kumar Sharma - Executive Director and Regional Head, Indian Oil Corporation Limited

  11. Dr. Ajit Kumar Thakur - Executive Director (Alternate Energy), Indian Oil Corporation Limited

  12. Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha - Executive Director & Head - International Trade, Indian Oil Corporation Limited

About the Recommended Candidate:

Shri Satyan Kumar is currently serving as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of ONGC Green Limited, a subsidiary of ONGC. His extensive experience in strategy and green energy initiatives positions him well for the key role of Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs) at India's largest oil and gas exploration and production company.

Next Steps:

The PESB recommendation will now be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval. Upon receiving the ACC's concurrence, Shri Satyan Kumar will assume charge as Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs) on the Board of ONGC.

The Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs) plays a crucial role in shaping ONGC's long-term strategic direction, corporate planning, and business development initiatives, particularly as the company navigates the energy transition and expands its presence in new energy avenues
