Amid COVID-19 outbreak, MCL organises 'Kisan Mela'
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) organised 'Kisan Mela' - an awareness programme on promoting livelihood, nutrition and agro-forestry as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”
New Delhi: Despite the second wave of deadly COVID-19, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Miniratna Coal PSU organised a ‘Kisan Mela.' Kisan Mela, which was organised in the Jamgaon Gram Panchayat, Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda in Odisha, is an awareness programme on promoting livelihood, nutrition, and agroforestry as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’
However, there was very little awareness about the COVID-19 appropriate behaviours such as proper facemask and social distancing, which can be seen in the pictures posted by the Coal PSU in a social media post on Friday.
The 'Kisan Mela' showcased the importance of WADI farming - a tree-based farming model which has proved successful in providing sustained incomes for the farmers. The farmers were also informed of the importance of soil health, the use of hybrid seeds, technologies of lift irrigation, insecticides, and different government schemes for farmers’ benefit.
