Bollywood icon Dharmendra, affectionately known as 'Dharam Paaji,' has passed away at 89, marking the end of a six-decade cinematic legacy defined by versatility and charisma.

Affectionately known as the 'He-Man' and 'Dharam Paaji,' the iconic star passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Mumbai at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday. His departure signifies the end of a glorious era in Indian cinema.
Dharmendra Ji's career spanned over six decades, during which he reigned over millions of hearts with his versatile talent, inherent charm, and powerful on-screen presence. Whether it was his carefree character, Veeru, in Sholay, his brilliant comedy in Chupke Chupke, or his emotional depth in films like Anupama and Satyakam—he imbued every role with unique sincerity.
A Legacy of Strength and Warmth
Dharmendra Ji's identity transcended his title as an 'Action Hero' or 'He-Man.' His warm and sincere off-screen persona earned him the affectionate moniker 'Dharam Paaji' among fans and industry peers alike. His humility and positivity were deeply respected within the film fraternity.
His final film, the upcoming war drama 'Ikkis,' is scheduled for worldwide release on December 25, 2025. In the film, directed by Sriram Raghavan, he portrays M. L. Khetarpal, the father of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India's youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film’s makers described him as "an emotional powerhouse."
Filmmaker Karan Johar offered an emotional tribute, stating that his passing is the "end of an ERA...," highlighting Dharmendra Ji's exceptional place in Indian cinema. Several celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, arrived to attend his last rites at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.
Dharmendra is survived by his wives, Hema Malini and Prakash Kaur, and his children, including actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Ajeita Deol, and Vijeta Deol.
