Cabinet Approved extension of Surda Mining Lease of Hindustan Copper Limited

The Govt. of Jharkhand, vide its Cabinet meeting dated 09.12.2021, has approved the extension of Surda Mining Lease of M/s Hindustan Copper Limited, as per Mineral (Mining by Govt. Company) Rule, 2015.

NEW DELHI-The Govt. of Jharkhand, vide its Cabinet meeting dated 09.12.2021, has approved the extension of Surda Mining Lease of M/s Hindustan Copper Limited, as per Mineral (Mining by Govt. Company) Rule, 2015. 

The total mining lease area of Surda Mine is 388.68 hectare area and is located at village Surda, Pathargora, Benashole villages and Forest Block No.1098 in Ghatsila tehsil of East Singhbhum District of Jharkhand. 

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) (Violation) of MOEF &CC, during its meeting dated 6th – 7th August 2020, had already recommended for grant of Environment Clearance (EC) for production of 0.9 million tonne per annum Copper ore from the Surda Mines. 

With this approval of lease extension, HCL is readying to restart mining at Surda Mining Lease where the operation was suspended since 01.04.2020. The start of mining activity in Surda Mine will generate employment opportunity and re-energize the economic activity in tribal and economically backward region of Ghatsila, Jharkhand.
