Chandigarh, December 2025 — The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has formally entered into a new agreement with the city’s door-to-door waste collectors, strengthening its ongoing efforts to streamline waste management and improve cleanliness.

The MoU establishes an official framework for 900+ waste collectors who handle household garbage collection across the city. Under the agreement, the civic body will track service operations more efficiently while also providing improved working conditions and formal recognition to the workers.

During the signing event, the municipal leadership distributed sanitation kits to the participating collectors and reiterated the administration’s commitment to building a more reliable and accountable waste-collection system. Officials stated that the initiative will help reduce irregularities, enhance hygiene standards, and support the city’s goal of achieving better waste segregation and reduced landfill dependency.

The new understanding is also expected to protect the dignity and rights of workers who have traditionally been part of the informal waste-collection network, bringing them under an organized system for the first time. Civic authorities highlighted that the MoU will play a key role in maintaining Chandigarh’s reputation as one of the country’s cleanest urban centers.
