New Delhi: As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ – to celebrate 75 years of India's Independence, The Ministry of Power, Government of India organized a ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at venue Srima Sarada Hall, Ramkrishna Mission, Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The Bijli Mahotsav was used as a platform to celebrate the collaboration between the state and the Central Governments and highlight the key achievements of the power sector. 

The Bijli Mahotsav is being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.The weeklong celebration (25th July 2022 to 30th July 2022) started in West Bengal on 25.07.2022. 

Shri Swami Sarbalokananda, the Secretary, RamKrishna Mission, Narendrapur graced the occasion as the Hon’ble Chief Guest. Mrs. Firdousi Begum, the Hon’ble MLA, Sonarpur Uttar was the Guest of Honour. The occasion saw large turnouts of crowds from nearby areas and districts.The other esteemed dignitaries present were Shri Amal Pal, GM, Powergrid, Sri Sourav Dhalla, BDO, Sonarpur, Shri Nirmal Biswas, RM, Baruipur Circle, WBSEDCL, Shri Bidhyak Dutta, Additional Secretary, DVC.

The dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth shown by the power sector over the past few years. The event also witnessed several beneficiaries and local residents sharing their experiences of receiving uncut 24x7 power.
The event commenced with the lighting of the Mangaldeep by the Hon’ble Chief Guest and esteemed dignitaries.

To engage with the visitors and guests, various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks and screening of short films on the power sector was organized. Given the large gathering, it was ensured that all Covid safety protocols such as social distancing and wearing of masks were adhered to. In addition, masks were also distributed to all the attendees.
