DVC to Install Solar Powered Drinking water System in 4 different villages

Raghunathpur, Purulia: Around 700 million people globally still lack access to safe water, despite the Millennium Development Goal (MDG), the target for water being met and improved drinking water sources exist, ensuring safe and sustained water services remains a challenge. The new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water and sanitation agenda is more ambitious and aims to ensure that everyone has access to a safe and reliable source of drinking water by 2030. 
 
In order to achieve the ambitious task of safe water access, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station under its CSR Scheme is continuing to explore new and innovative solutions that are affordable, scalable, environmentally sustainable, and climate-smart. Solar-powered water systems have the potential to meet all of these criteria, providing higher quality services to villages.
 
The CSR policy of DVC  has been made in the framework of the comprehensive policy guidelines of the Government of India to overcome the socio-economic and environmental concerns of the society in a sustainable manner. 
 
As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility DVC RTPS under the scheme " Sustainable and Safe Drinking water for All" has undergone an agreement with Public Health Engineering Directorate (PHE.Dte.) Mechanical Division, Purulia for Installation of  Solar Powered  Drinking water System with pipeline water supply in 04 different Schools in Hansapather, Guniyara, Naragoria and Durmut villages with the project cost of Rs. 30.13  lakhs as a deposit scheme.
 
This initiative of DVC will ensure affordable, scalable, environmentally sustainable, and climate-smart Clean drinking water to the school children as well as the villagers. In this scheme, a solar energy-based submersible pump with a high yield bore well, where water is pumped from the system and can be stored in an elevated tank and the water can reach to an outlet for collection. 
 
In this connection Chief Engineer & HOP RTPS Shri. Asim Nandy handed over the Cheque of Rs. 30,13,580/-  to Executive Engineer PHE Dte Shri. Suman Dutta & Assistant engineer PHE Dte Shri. K K Mahapatra in the presence of  DGM (HR) Shri. R P Sinha, DGM (Fin) Shri. T Ghatak, SE (Civil ) Sri. S K Das,  Manager CSR RTPS Md Shamim Ahmad at RTPS.    
 
On this occasion, Shri Nandy said the Solar energy based drinking water System will ensure safe and environmentally sustainable water facilities to the school and to the villages as  DVC commits to ensuring safe drinking water to all.  
 
Provision of solar based safe and clean drinking water system which will ensure availability of drinking water to the school children and villagers round the clock without depending on electricity is the motive of DVC, for which the deposit money has been handed over to PHE Dte Mechanical Division Purulia. PHE Dte will implement the scheme and after completion of the work, a utilization certificate will be provided to DVC by PHE, briefed by Md Shamim Ahmad, Manager CSR DVC Raghunathpur.
