India Launches 7th Tranche of Strategic Mineral Auctions to Bolster Mineral Security
New Delhi, March 24, 2026: Hon’ble Union Minister of Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, along with Secretary (Mines) Piyush Goyal, launched the 7th Tranche of Critical & Strategic Mineral Auctions at the National DMF Summit 2026. The initiative is a significant step toward strengthening India’s mineral security and supporting the country’s technological and energy ambitions.
The tranche includes a diverse portfolio of critical minerals such as Rare Earth Elements (REE), Tungsten, Lithium, Graphite, Vanadium, Titanium, Glauconite, and Rock Phosphate. These resources are crucial for clean energy technologies, high-tech manufacturing, fertilizers, and other strategic sectors, underscoring India’s commitment to energy transition and technological self-reliance.
Transforming Mining and Resource Management
The National DMF Summit also spotlighted the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) as a transformative tool for inclusive development in mining-affected regions. DMF initiatives aim to improve livelihoods, provide infrastructure, and drive socio-economic progress in communities directly impacted by mining activities.
MECL’s Role in Unlocking Critical Minerals
Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) was represented at the event by Indra Dev Narayan, highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in India’s mineral exploration landscape. With advanced drilling technology and robust exploration expertise, MECL continues to facilitate the discovery and development of India’s critical mineral resources, supporting national priorities in energy, technology, and industrial self-reliance.
Strategic Significance of the 7th Tranche
The auctioned minerals are essential inputs for several future-focused industries:
- Rare Earth Elements (REE): Key for electronics, defense systems, and renewable energy technologies
- Lithium & Graphite: Critical for battery manufacturing and electric mobility solutions
- Tungsten & Vanadium: Essential for high-strength alloys and industrial applications
- Titanium & Glauconite: Used in aerospace, chemical industries, and fertilizers
- Rock Phosphate: Vital for agriculture and food security initiatives
By facilitating transparent auctions of these resources, the government is promoting long-term resource security, investment, and industrial competitiveness, while also driving the nation’s strategic and technological objectives.
