INS Nipun, built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd commissioned at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai

Mumbai, 31 August: The Indian Navy commissioned the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar-class, INS Nipun, at Naval Dockyard Mumbai.

The vessel is being designed and built indigenously by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL), Visakhapatnam. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan said while addressing the commissioning ceremony that “in a period of strategic churn," Nipun is going to be a potent addition to the Navy’s specialized underwater capabilities needed for multi-domain deep-water operations at sea.

“With Nipun being a dedicated diving support and submarine rescue vessel, the Western Naval Command will be hugely empowered in terms of complex underwater operations,” he added.

Nipun is a purpose-built platform to facilitate a wide range of diving and underwater operations. The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems and underwater intervention capabilities to provide persistent support for divers operating in challenging sea conditions.

The ship has modern navigation, platform management, and accurate station-keeping systems, along with specialized diving, underwater intervention, and medical support facilities.
