Sachidananda  Mohanty has been appointed as a Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for three years with immediate effect. The appointment is done by the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of India, as per a gazette notification.

Professional Background:

He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of English, at the University of Hyderabad.

He has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha.

He personally has over three decades of experience in the field of education and culture.

He has received numerous national and international awards and distinctions, including from organizations like Katha, British Council, Fulbright (twice), Charles Wallace, and Salzburg.

He has published extensively in areas such as British, American, gender, translation, and post-colonial studies. His books have been published by notable publishers like Oxford, Sage, Routledge, and Orient Longman.

Mr. Mohanty has served as a member of India's Education Commission to UNESCO and as a Governing Board member of the Auroville Foundation.

He is the son of the late Bidyut Prabha Devi, a renowned poet of Odisha, and the late Panchanan Mohanty, a financial advisor to the Government of Odisha.
