Sachidananda Mohanty has been appointed as a Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for three years with immediate effect. The appointment is done by the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of India, as per a gazette notification.
Professional Background:
He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of English, at the University of Hyderabad.
He has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha.
He personally has over three decades of experience in the field of education and culture.

Mr. Mohanty has served as a member of India's Education Commission to UNESCO and as a Governing Board member of the Auroville Foundation.
He is the son of the late Bidyut Prabha Devi, a renowned poet of Odisha, and the late Panchanan Mohanty, a financial advisor to the Government of Odisha.
