Sanjay Malhotra appointed as new Governor of RBI
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Malhotra as the next RBI Governor for a three-year term beginning from December 12, 2024, as per officially reported.

New Delhi: The Union Government of India has appointed Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday, December 9. The letter mentioned, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, IAS (RJ 1990), Secretary, Department of Revenue as Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years from 11.12.2024."

Sanjay Malhotra by his appointment succeeding Shaktikanta Das who's tenure is ending tomorrow. Sanjay, a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre2. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and a master's in public policy from Princeton University.
Throughout his career, Malhotra has held several key positions, including Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited, Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, and Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. His extensive experience in public policy and various sectors positions him well to guide the RBI in navigating India's complex financial landscape3.
