NLC India Limited Bags First Prize for Swachhata Campaign

NLCIL was chosen by the Ministry of Coal for the 1st prize in appreciation of the varied activities carried out, innovative ideas involved, maximum public participation and awareness programmes conducted during the event.

NLC India Limited Bags First Prize for Swachhata Campaign

NLC India Limited was awarded the First Prize for its innovative practices and public participation during the Swachhata Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight) from 16th June to 30th June, 2024. It is pertinent to note that NLCIL has bagged the First Prize for Swachhata Campaign in the previous year also.

The award was presented by Hon’ble Union Minister for Coal & Mines, Shri Kishan Reddy and Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Coal Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, at the Stakeholder Consultation on Mining Developers cum Operators (MDOs) organized by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India at New Delhi, on 21st October, 2024 and received by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, Dr.Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) & Director (P&P) Addl. Charge, NLCIL and Shri R. Murugan, Chief General Manager, NLCIL. Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Coal and other senior officials of the Coal & Mine ministry were also present. While presenting the award, Honourable Minister for Coal & Mines Shri Kishan Reddy appreciated Team NLCIL for the outstanding achievement and innovative initiatives.

Following the clarion call by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the fortnight of cleanliness drive is being observed by NLCIL every year since April 2016. This year was the 9th consecutive year of Swachhata Pakhwada celebrated by NLCIL.

Based on the guidelines issued by the Cabinet Secretariat of the Ministry of Coal, an indicative list of activities was first prescribed and action undertaken accordingly. Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, Functional Directors Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Shri. Samir Swarup, Shri. M. Venkatachalam, NLCIL’s CVO Thiru. Appakannu Govindarajan, Senior officials, Executives, Employees of NLCIL, Trade Union leaders, Contract and Indcoserve society employees, Traders and other stakeholders including NLCIL’s outstation Plants & Offices and subsidiary companies actively participated in various related events.

During the fortnight, 11,390 saplings were planted in Neyveli Township and surrounding villages, awareness programmes on the ill-effects of single use plastic and on clean drinking water were conducted, solid waste management was regulated and various Essay, Drawing & Quiz competitions were conducted. A mass cleaning drive was organised in the Township involving about 5000 participants comprising Senior officials, employees, contract workmen, students from School & Colleges. Social Media and Print media were utilised for creating awareness regarding cleanliness.

NLCIL was chosen by the Ministry of Coal for the 1st prize in appreciation of the varied activities carried out, innovative ideas involved, maximum public participation and awareness programmes conducted during the event. It is a proud moment for NLCIL as it bags back-to-back first prizes for “Swachhata Pakhwada” activities for two consecutive years.
