TRAI Releases Network Quality Assessment for Mumbai: Airtel, RJIL, VIL Lead in Call and Data Performance
Mumbai, January 2026: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published its Independent Drive Test (IDT) findings for Mumbai, evaluating real-world mobile network performance across urban, coastal, and railway routes during November 2025.
The assessment, conducted under TRAI Bengaluru’s supervision, covered 320.2 km of test routes, including city drives, railway lines, walk tests, hotspots, and coastal routes. The survey tested 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, reflecting user experience across diverse handset capabilities.

TRAI’s testing covered high-density neighborhoods such as Colaba, Byculla, Dadar, Dharavi, Bandra East, Kurla, Chembur, Ghatkopar, and Wadala. Public transport hubs like CSMT, Ghatkopar Railway Station, and Saki Naka Metro Station, as well as coastal areas from Gateway of India to Karanja, were also included. Walk tests focused on crowded pedestrian zones near Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Tata Memorial Hospital.
The tests used TRAI-calibrated equipment and standardized protocols to ensure accuracy. Findings have been communicated to the relevant telecom service providers for corrective action.
