LUCKNOW - In an important step to improve the cybersecurity of India's power sector, the Computer Security Incident Response Team for Power Sector (CSIRT-Power), Ministry of Power, teamed up with NTPC to organize a Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop for Northern Region Power Utilities in Lucknow today. Over 150 power sector professionals attended, highlighting the crucial need for cybersecurity in this essential infrastructure.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders and featured prominent guests. Shri Narendra Bhooshan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and Additional Sources of Energy for the Government of UP and Chairman of UPNEDA, led the event. He was joined by Dr. Ashish Kumar Goel, IAS, Chairman of UPPCL, Smt. Rishika Sharan, Member Secretary of NRPC, and Shri L.K.S. Rathore, Director of Cybersecurity at CSIRT-Power, MoP. Senior officials from NRLDC and NTPC also attended, showcasing a united approach to tackling cyber threats.
The one-day workshop aimed to improve the skills of IT and Operational Technology (OT) professionals in anticipating, preventing, and responding to cyber incidents. As the power sector becomes a more appealing target for cyber threats, initiatives like this are vital for creating a strong and secure energy grid.
Speakers at the event pointed out the rapid digital transformation of the power sector and the related risks. They discussed various topics, including the current cyber threat landscape, best practices for securing critical infrastructure, and the role of awareness in managing risks. The workshop also provided a chance for utilities to share knowledge and collaborate, helping them collectively strengthen their defenses.
Shri L.K.S. Rathore, Director of Cybersecurity at CSIRT-Power, reaffirmed the Ministry of Power's commitment to ensuring a secure and reliable power supply. He highlighted the ongoing efforts of CSIRT-Power, which operates as the first 24x7 sectoral Security Operations Centre (SOC) in any civil sector of the Government of India, to offer timely assistance and guidance to power utilities.
The event wrapped up with a strong call to action for all participants to make cybersecurity a key part of their operational and business strategies. This emphasized the shared responsibility of the power sector in protecting the nation's critical energy infrastructure.
