PM Modi Launches Next-Gen Haldia Terminal – Redefining Bulk Cargo in India

Ahmedabad, March 14, 2026: In a major milestone for India’s eastern maritime infrastructure, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Haldia Bulk Terminal (HBT), developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). The terminal, India’s first fully automated dry bulk facility, is designed to handle 4 million tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of dry bulk cargo including coal, bauxite, and limestone, and features direct rail connectivity for efficient cargo movement along the Hooghly River.

Transforming Eastern India’s Logistics

Mr. Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO, APSEZ, said:
"The Haldia Bulk Terminal is a next-generation facility that brings full mechanisation and direct rail evacuation to the Hooghly, setting a benchmark for efficiency on India’s eastern seaboard. By eliminating jetty dumping and lowering cargo loss through advanced automation, we are ensuring cleaner, safer, and more sustainable operations."

The terminal will play a pivotal role in strengthening supply chains for West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand, supporting India’s industrial hubs while lowering logistics costs under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and Sagarmala Programme.
