New Delhi: Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore in Delhi, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding metro connectivity, and improving the quality of life for residents of the national capital.

Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister said the projects would give fresh momentum to the development of Delhi and help transform the city into a modern and well-connected global capital.

“We are committed to building a modern and Viksit Delhi. The projects launched today will strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity and enhance ease of living for the people,” the Prime Minister said.

Metro Expansion to Benefit Lakhs of Commuters

One of the key highlights of the projects is the expansion of the Delhi Metro network, which will significantly improve connectivity across the capital.

The Prime Minister said the new metro section launched today will benefit lakhs of commuters, particularly residents of East and North-East Delhi, making daily travel faster and more convenient.

He also noted that the metro network in the capital has expanded to around 375 kilometers, making it one of the largest urban metro systems in the world.

Push for Clean Public Transport

Highlighting improvements in public transport, PM Modi said the government is working to provide clean, comfortable and modern transportation to citizens.

He noted that:

  • Over 4,000 electric buses supported by the central government are already operating in Delhi

  • Around 1,800 additional buses have been introduced in the past year

  • Several ‘Devi buses’ have been deployed to strengthen last-mile connectivity in residential areas and colonies.

These initiatives are aimed at improving public mobility and reducing pollution in the national capital.

Modern Housing for Government Employees

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Sarojini Nagar, where he inaugurated modern residential complexes built for government employees.

According to the government, the new housing facilities will provide safe, clean and well-equipped living spaces for thousands of employees who contribute to national governance.

“Those who work tirelessly to fulfill the nation’s resolutions deserve safe, clean and convenient homes,” PM Modi said.

Financial Support for Street Vendors Through SVANidhi Scheme

The Prime Minister also highlighted the impact of the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi Scheme, which provides financial assistance to street vendors.

In Delhi alone:

  • Nearly 2 lakh street vendors have benefited from the scheme

  • More than ₹350 crore in financial assistance has been distributed.

The government has now launched a campaign to provide SVANidhi credit cards, allowing street vendors to access formal financial services and support their businesses.

“Street vendors will now have their own credit cards, which they can use according to their needs,” the Prime Minister said.

‘Nari Shakti’ Driving India’s Progress

Marking International Women's Day, PM Modi praised the role of women in India’s development.

He said women are playing an increasingly important role in politics, science, sports and social development, adding that the country’s ‘Nari Shakti’ is moving forward with new energy in every field.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the success of the government’s initiative to create “Lakhpati Didis”, noting that over 10 crore women have been empowered through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the country.
