He joined the General Insurance Industry as a direct recruit Officer in 1979. Shri Roy was with the Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. for 29 years in various capacities before moving to GIC Re in June 2008 as General Manager and was there till promoted as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited.
In GIC Re, Shri Roy held the charge of Human Resource Management, Secretarial Department, Credit Reinsurance, Investment Mid & Back Office, Regulatory Compliances, Training and Coordination with External Agencies and Corporate Communications besides Agricultural Reinsurance.
Shri Roy was also the Financial Adviser in GIC Re.
During his stay at GIC Re some of his major achievements include:
- Introduction of Performance Management System(PMS)
- Introduction of Incentive Scheme
- Achieving full Corporate Governance compliant status for GIC Re
- Revival of GIC Learning Academy
- Introduction of Procurement Guidelines
- Updation of Financial Standing Order
- Introduction of HR Guidelines
Shri Roy had been a member of Technical Sub Committee (Engineering) of TAC and was closely associated in Development of Core Insurance Solution (INLIAS). He also headed the core group for development of Fire & Engineering Module. He has attended several training programmes on Change Management, Negotiation skills, and Corporate Governance.
Shri Ashok Kumar Roy was appointed as officiating Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC) from December 1, 2011 to January 1, 2012.
