New Delhi: Guest labourers at Kochi Refinery enrolled under State Insurance scheme “Awaz” Top management of Kochi Refinery led by Shri Murali P Madhavan, Executive Director (Kochi Refinery) gave a warm welcome to Hon’ble Minister of Labour & Excise, Government of Kerala Shri. TP Ramakrishnan on his visit to the Refinery on Monday, 2 March 2020.
 
At the meeting, the Hon'ble Minister welcomed the suggestion put forth by the BPCL management to enroll guest (migrant) labourers at the Project Sites of Kochi Refinery into the Awaz Health Insurance Scheme recently launched by Governement of Kerala for guest labourers throughout the State.
 
Hon’ble Minister Shri Ramakrishnan called for immediate action through the District Labour Office and the Awaz Health Insurance Scheme was jointly launched in Kochi Refinery by Mr. George Thomas, General Manager (PR & Admin) and Mr. VB Biju, District Labour Officer (Enforcement), Govt. of Kerala at a function held today (5 March 2020) at the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP) site in Ambalamugal. Officials of Kochi Refinery and Kerala State Labour Department were also present on the occasion.
 
In addition to general health insurance the Awaz Health Insurance Scheme will also have accidental death coverage for guest labourers residing in the state. This is a first of its kind Government Initiated Scheme intended for guest labourers working in any State in India. All enrolled policyholders of this Insurance Scheme will have both health insurance benefit and accidental death benefit. The insurance coverage is of Rs.25,000/- for hospitalization, Rs.1.0 lakh for permanent disablement and accidental death coverage of Rs.2.0 lakhs. The Labour Department will also bear the complete expenses of transferring the deceased to his/her hometown, on the death of the guest labourer.
 
Kochi Refinery has activated enrolment of all guest labourers (approximately 3500) in the project sites of MSBP, PDPP and other Refinery sites.
