She added that the Delhi Metro Museum will inspire children and young visitors by showcasing the engineering excellence and planning behind the Delhi Metro system.
Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh congratulated DMRC and said Delhi is steadily emerging as a “city of museums”, with the Metro Museum joining the ranks of iconic institutions like the National Museum and the Prime Ministers’ Museum. He expressed confidence that it will become a major tourist attraction in the city.
World-Class Design and Interactive Experience
Spread across nearly 12,000 square feet in its first phase, the museum has been designed on the lines of leading metro museums around the world. Its location at Supreme Court Metro Station on the Blue Line makes it easily accessible by metro and road. The museum is also close to major landmarks such as Bharat Mandapam and the Supreme Court of India.
Visitors can experience:
-
Metro train driving simulators
-
Working models of Tunnel Boring Machines and Launching Girders
-
Interactive digital displays and learning games
-
Quiz zones, selfie points and souvenir shops
The museum also features a mock metro tunnel, a model of the Operations Control Centre, and a special section dedicated to ‘Metroman’ Dr. E. Sreedharan. Dioramas of Delhi landmarks, a photo gallery of dignitary visits, and panels highlighting key milestones in Delhi Metro’s journey add depth to the experience.
In total, the museum houses over 50 exhibits, panels, kiosks and models, with Phase-2 expansions planned to introduce newer technologies and displays in the future.
From Patel Chowk to Supreme Court Station
The idea of a Delhi Metro Museum dates back to 2008, when India’s first Metro Rail Museum was inaugurated at Patel Chowk Metro Station. It was the first of its kind in South Asia and attracted thousands of students and visitors from India and abroad every year.
With the opening of the new museum at Supreme Court Station, the Patel Chowk Metro Museum has now been closed, and its legacy carried forward in this modern, expanded facility.
