GRSE Hosts Canadian High Commissioner to Explore Maritime and Defence Collaboration
GRSE hosted Canadian High Commissioner Christopher John Cooter at its Kolkata facility to discuss maritime and defence manufacturing collaboration between India and Canada.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) was honoured to host H.E. Mr. Christopher John Cooter, High Commissioner of Canada to India, at its Kolkata facility on 12 December 2025. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr. Eelco Hendrik Jager, Minister (Commercial), and Mr. Arjun Kumar Dutta, Trade Commissioner.
During the visit, the Canadian delegation held detailed interactions with senior management of GRSE, gaining insights into the shipyard’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, technological expertise, and ongoing projects in the defence and maritime sectors.
The programme included a comprehensive presentation on GRSE’s competencies, covering its role in warship construction, engineering excellence, and contributions to India’s defence indigenisation efforts. Discussions also focused on identifying potential areas of collaboration, including shipbuilding, marine technologies, and defence manufacturing.
The visit reflects the strengthening bilateral engagement between India and Canada, particularly in the areas of maritime infrastructure, defence cooperation, and industrial partnerships. It underscores growing interest in leveraging mutual strengths to promote innovation, technology exchange, and sustainable defence manufacturing.
