Kolkata: As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a Schedule A Defence PSU and a leading warship-building company, has inducted five additional electric vehicles (EVs). This milestone further reinforces GRSE's vision of fostering a cleaner and greener future for India.

DIG Subrato Ghosh, ICG (Retd.), Director (Personnel), GRSE flagged off the electric vehicles from 61 Park Unit of GRSE, Kolkata in the august presence of representatives from Orix Auto Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. and Tata Motors & senior officials of GRSE. This addition brings the company’s total EV fleet count to 19, marking yet another step in the company's Green Energy Drive. The eco-friendly vehicles have been procured as part of the Government of India’s “Go Electric Campaign”.

By adopting EVs, GRSE has successfully saved 1,19,700 litres of fossil fuel consumption and reduced 208.5 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide emissions over three years, with the new additions projected to further reduce emissions by 24.82 metric tons annually. This initiative promotes e-mobility and supports the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by boosting indigenous EV manufacturing.

DIG Subrato Ghosh, ICG (Retd.), Director (Personnel), GRSE, highlighting the company’s leadership among DPSUs in deploying EVs, stated, “This initiative reinforces GRSE's commitment to sustainability and innovation. By significantly reducing carbon emissions and fossil fuel usage, we are contributing to a cleaner future and setting a benchmark for others to follow.”

The initiative aligns with GRSE's broader strategy of incorporating green technology in its shipbuilding projects and operations. GRSE is actively exploring innovative solutions to make maritime platforms environmental friendly.

About Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE):

The journey of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd., a premier Warship building Company in India, under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence, and a Schedule ‘A’ Mini Ratna Category I company, dates back to 1884 when it started its journey as a small workshop to repair vessels of River Steam Navigation Company. The Company was taken over by the Government of India in 1960. From Frigates, Corvettes, Fleet Tankers, Landing Ship Tank, Landing Craft Utility to Survey Vessels, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Fast Attack Craft - the repertoire is rich and varied. In addition to shipbuilding & ship repair, GRSE is also engaged in engine production and other engineering activities.

The engineering division manufactures deck machinery items, pre-fabricated portable steel bridges and marine pumps.
